"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else." Charles Dickens
In some way, what you do is lightening burdens. It's why you started or became part of a nonprofit.
A great way to help others give is to ask them to donate to your organization in lieu of giving you or your family a Christmas gift.
Last year, for my birthday, one of my children asked me if he could donate to our nonprofit instead of giving a gift. How could I possibly say "no" to that?! He saw that the this organization, Nonprofit Law and Leadership meant a lot to me and I would welcome his support.
Have you ever spoken with your loved ones about your nonprofit? Have you ever asked them to donate? If there is no special purpose or reason to donate, they may turn down the opportunity. But since it's Christmas and they were going to give you and/or your family gifts anyway ...
There is nothing wrong with asking. Start with explaining how much your organization means to you, how many people you want to help, how their small gift can impact others. They may surprise you and want to give more.
Nothing says "Merry Christmas" more than a donation to a nonprofit that is making a difference in the world. Don't be shy letting others know how they can help.
