"As we lose ourselves in the service of others, we discover our own lives and our own happiness" Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Over the years, there has been criticism of the US government not doing enough to relieve suffering after natural disasters. Why is that? First, probably because the US is perceived as the richest nation on earth. And I suppose it is but what doesn't get included in numbers when looking at who helps most, are the efforts of individual people. Government doesn't have to step in when individuals show up to help.
Frequently it is churches all over America that take the lead in reaching out. My daughter's family traveled to Houston, Texas, several years agos after a major hurricane. Along the way, they met hundredes of people from all over the western United States with horse trailers, pick up trucks, vehicles of all types filled with the brim with supplies of all kinds to relieve the suffering of the people effected by the hurricane. No one told them to do this. They did it because it's what Americans do. We pitch in when we see a need.
That's why you started a nonprofit. You saw a need and you had a good idea of how to meet that need. And every day, that's what you are doing.
Who needs government when people like you, people with generous hearts and willingness to serve, exist? It's time the American people are given their due when it comes to serving others.
